Getting Ready to Celebrate the Reformation: A Couple of Questions

Q. What are some good resources to help my family to better understand the Reformation?

A. In my new book, "Family Worship for the Reformation Season" there is an Annotated Bibliography. There you will find a list of great books for your Reformation library. You can get those books from us. A couple of key recommendations include: "The Reformation" by Stephen Nichols. This is one of my favorites. Nichols is a great writer, easy and fun to read. This is a lively introduction to the Reformation. Another of my favorites is by Richard Newton, "Heroes of the Reformation: Life Changing Lessons for the Young." Look through the bibliography and send us your order.

Q. When should our family start "Family Worship for the Reformation Season"?

A. One of the neat things about the book is that it is not dated and therefore can be used anytime. Some people will likely start the book in the next week or so and work through Reformation day on October 31st. Others will start sometime in October and work through part of November. One might also consider starting on Reformation Day (October 31st) and working through November. If you choose this approach you will be able to move from the Reformation Book to "Family Worship for the Christmas Season." One home school family has indicated that they plan to begin the book in January. The book can be used anytime but most people will probably use it either starting in September or late October.

Q. How is "Family Worship for the Reformation Season" designed to be used?

A. The book contains 35 daily devotions/family worship activities that are based on the characters and themes of the Reformation. Each day includes a Scripture reading, biographical sketch/commentary, family worship activity and prayer. The book gives guidelines for it's usage. It includes a section from Lori Rhodes. It also includes a chapter on family worship, discussion starters, a materials list and an annotated bibliography. We have sought to make the book as user friendly as possible.

Q. How long will the devotion/activity take each day.

A. The plan is for about 15 minutes each day. Of course you can adapt to your family.

Q. How do I order the book?

A. Just respond to this email. Individual copies are $9.35 but if you order more than one copy we will give you a discount based on the number of books that you order. Just send us your name, address and number of books that you would like and we will quote you a price.

Q. Will the Christmas book be available this year?

A. Yes, "Family Worship for the Christmas Season" is now available. As the 2007 best-selling book for Solid Ground Christian Books we anticipate that the book will be in print for many years. Orders are now coming in for the book and we have will soon have a couple of hundred copies available to start. If you include the Christmas book with your order of the Reformation book then we will give you an extra discount. Both books retail for $12 each. Purchase both and your price is $18.

Q. How can I help you get the word out?

A. One of the exciting things about the Reformation book is the number of new people that have been introduced to our ministry as a result. Many of the orders that we have received for the book are first time orders that came as a result of word of mouth. Would you consider telling a friend or a church about the book? A number of churches are ordering the book in bulk. Please forward this email, make a phone call or two and help us get the word out. We anticipate that soon the book will appear on Reformation 21 and Challies.com.

Q. Can we schedule you to speak to our group about family worship and the Reformation?

A. I would be delighted to speak to your group. Just respond to this email or call me at 678-697-4495. My updated speaking schedule is below. My wife Lori is also available to speak to ladies groups.
